MARI MARI CULTURAL VILLAGE

Mari Mari Cultural Village tour is located deep in the countryside about 25 minutes away from the modern and developing Kota Kinabalu city. The village operates as a museum that preserves Borneo ethnic culture. It aims to share the knowledge, history, culture, and tradition of Borneo with you so that it is not forgotten.

The tour offers you the opportunity to see and experience the culture and lifestyle of how the indigenous ethnic groups of Borneo used to live in the olden days when electricity had not yet been introduced in their land.

The village features 5 different ethnic tribes in one village. They are the rice farmer Kadazan-Dusun, the longhouse resident Rungus, the hunters and fisherman Lundayeh, the cowboy and sea gypsey Bajau, and the famously feared headhunting tribe Murut.

Welcoming ceremony by the Murut Tribe Chief. Enjoy a guided tour of each traditional houses and learn about the history, bamboo cooking demonstration, fire making demonstration, blowpipe demonstration and traditional dances in a remote forest setting. You’ll also get to participate in the light activities.

KLIAS RIVER CRUISE: A day trip, tour to Klias Wetlands near Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo provides a chance to see the mascot for visit MALAYSIA 2014 'PROBOSCIS MONKEY'.

Klias river cruise Wetlands near Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo provides a chance to spend an afternoon and evening traveling through a mangrove forest situated on the Klias peninsula. The Klias Wetlands reserve is full of wildlife including many species of birds and if you are lucky you may see Proboscis Monkeys, Long Tail Macaques or Silver Languor Monkeys.

The Klias Wetlands river trip leaves from the Klias jetty at about 3pm in the afternoon. During your river cruise through the mangrove forest you will see apes as they start feeding as dusk approaches.You'll also, after dusk, enjoy a stunning display of fireflies. A beautiful combination.

The Klias Wetlands reserve is about 120km (beaufort area) south of Kota Kinabalu. Your day trip to Klias Wetlands from Kota Kinabalu will start around 14:15, arriving back at your hotel in Kota Kinabalu by 21:00. If you have young children you should be prepared for a late finish.
